How does each treatment option work?

Mimic® 240LV (tebufenozide) is an insect growth regulator that, when ingested by the spruce budworm larvae, interferes with its molting (“shedding its skin”) causing the spruce budworm to stop feeding and die.

Foray® 76B (Btk) is a microbial insecticide that when ingested by the spruce budworm larvae affects the gut (stomach) lining of the caterpillar and causes it to stop feeding and die within a day or two.

Disrupt Bio-Flake® SBW (pheromone) interferes with the ability of adult male spruce budworm moths to find females to mate with, thereby helping to reduce the future spruce budworm population.

Got a Question? Ask Away.

We’ve got a pretty extensive list of questions and answers about our partnership, the research program, treatments and outcomes. But if you can’t find what you’re looking for in the categories below, please ask your question. We want to make sure New Brunswickers have complete access to all information about this research project.

If you didn’t find what you were looking for, ask us your questions about spruce budworm and we’ll post the responses here, or let you know if the answer already exists.
